Dorothy Theresa Dzigurski was born in Grand Junction, Colorado. She studied art at the University of Hawaii and is a graduate of Colorado University in Boulder. In the mid 1960's while working as a nurse, she encountered a patient with a broken painting arm, Alexander Dzigurski.

Dorothy was instrumental in Alexander's recovery and a great friendship, romance and marriage followed. In 1968 they were married, and together they traveled extensively throughout the contiguous United States and beyond to Europe, Canada, and Hawaii. The happy couple had a son, Alex Dzigurski II. Today, Alex is a fine artist in his own right, in part a testament to Dorothy's love of art and her devotion to her artist husband and to her artist son.
