George Bickerstaff 1893 - 1954
George Bickerstaff, Sea Spray
Sea Spray, Mendocino Coast

George Bickerstaff was born in Marianna, Arkansas. Though largely self-taught, he did spend a brief stint studying at the Art Institute of Chicago. He drifted around a bit (Texas, San Diego, Los Angeles, Van Nuys) before settling more permanently in Ukiah, California.

He is known for his landscapes, rolling hills, wildflower fields, eucalyptus trees, mountain and desert scenes. On occasion, he chose American Indian and western subjects.

He worked with a more famous Southern California artist, Paul Lauritz, sharing exhibition space with Lauritz on many occasions. Although Bickerstaff was never a star, he was prolific and capable landscape painter.
