J. (John) Clinton Spencer created luminous floral and fruit still lifes. He was a member of the Fall River School. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1861. He studied briefly with Edward Leavitt, the leading member of the Providence still life school, and J. Clinton Spencer is now known for stunning still life paintings. He exhibited with the Providence Art Club in the 1880's. He died in Providence in 1919.
