"The Fandango" 1873, Charles Christian Nahl 1818-1878
The Crocker Museum, Sacramento, CA
In this painting, San Francisco painter and German immigrant Charles Christian Nahl looked back 52 years into California's history to 1821,
when Mexico won independence from Spain. "The Fandango"
hangs above the grand mansion staircase in the Crocker,
across from Nahl's "Sunday Morning in the Mines."
